Vaanchinaath Temple Festival, Paravur
The 8th century Thiruvanchikulam temple in Paravur, with more than 2000 year old history is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The 10 day annual festival known as Vaisakapouranami Brahmotsavam is celebrated in a grand scale in the Malayalam month of Kumbham, which falls in the month of February-March.
Special ‘Poojas’ –ritual prayers, are conducted on these days. The festival commences with the ‘Kodiyettam’-hoisting of the temple flag on a 70feet high flag post and concludes after the Aaraatu ceremony in the sea. An incredible ceremony called ‘Anayottam’, elephant race is also conducted in here.
