Pariyanampatta Pooram, Pallakkad

The Pariyanampatta Pooram is a seven day long annual festival of the Pariyanampetta Bhagavathy Temple in Palakkad. Areligious and cultural extravaganzadedicated to the Goddess Bhagavathy, known as the Goddess of 14 desams (county) that draws devotees in multitudes. The pooram day falls approximately on the second week of February, which according to Malayalam Calendar is the month of Kumbam.

The festivities include various traditional and classical musicals likeTholpavakoothu, Pootham, Thira, Karivela, Kaalavela, Kuthiravela, Kathakali and Chakyarkoothu. ‘Kalamezhuthupattu’ needs special mention. It is a multihued ritual, where images of the Goddess is drawn on the floor in multiple colours. The celebrations conclude with an incredible procession of 21 caparisoned elephants.
