Athirappilly

Athirappilly falls is on the Chalakuddyriver which originates in the upper pinnacles of the Western Ghats. Many endemic and critically endangered species of flora and fauna are found in the forests of the Athirapilly-Vazhachal area. This area is also the only home to 4 endangered species of the Hornbill in the entire Western Ghats. The Western Ghats has been declared as the most vital biodiversity hot spots in the world. The International Bird Association has declared it an “important bird area”. Besides, the nature conservation foundation has recommended that the area should be declared a sanctuary or a National Park.
