Bakel

Bakel fort in Kasargod, Kerala, is spread over a large area of 40 acres.When you study this fort in detail, it is quite evident that this was not a fort built for administrative purposes. All suggestions are that this fort was built strictly for defense. The small windows on the outer walls of the fort are designed to defend the fort. The openings at top were meant for striking at distant targets. The holes below were used when the enemy came closer. Also, the cavities at the bottom level were used to confront the enemies who came very close to the fort. With such ingenious design, the fort provided an effective defense shelter.
