All about the Chinnar – Trek.

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is a World Heritage Site, with 11 tribal settlements, 34 species of mammals that includes the threatened Nilgiri Tahr and 245 species of birds, as well as, 965 species of flowering plants. It is home to the Indian Star Tortoise and the largest population of vulnerable mugger crocodiles in Kerala.

The drive through the green carpeted tea plantations offers the vast valley view of Thalayaar and Vaguvarai tea estates, along with plenty of flowering trees like Spathodia, Jakaranda poinsettias, etc…, making it one of the best visual delights.

  • A direct drive through Marayoor Sandal Wood forest to Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • 2-3 hours trek in the Sanctuary with the tribal guide.
  • Drive back to Munnar.
  • Visiting Historical Hermitages “Muniyara” will be on our way to Chinnar or on our way back to Munnar, depending on the timing we choose (if we start at 05.00 am then it will on the way back, if we start later then it will be on the way to Chinnar).
  1. Day1 Program
    • A direct drive through Marayoor Sandal Wood forest to Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary.
    • 2-3 hours trek in the Sanctuary with the tribal guide.
    • Drive back to Munnar.
    • Visiting Historical Hermitages “Muniyara” will be on our way to Chinnar or on our way back to Munnar, depending on the timing we choose (if we start at 05.00 am then it will on the way back, if we start later then it will be on the way to Chinnar).
